BDO Sideshows: Part 2

Röyksopp, Battles, Kasabian and mariachi by way of hardcore punk rockers.
Das Racist.

We prefer to consolidate our summer festival experience with a decent measure of cracking sideshows and Big Day Out 2012 will be no exception. We announced gigs earlier today for Big Day Outers Best Coast, Girl Talk, Foster The People, My Chemical Romance, Odd Future and Kitty, Daisy and Lewis. Open your iCals, conference-call your mates and peruse the rest of the 2012 sideshows here.

New York radicals Battles will be playing the Metro Theatre in Sydney on Monday January 23 and The Forum in Melbourne on Saturday January 28. Their newest video is truly supreme, especially if you love synchronised martial arts and giant ice creams:

Festival favourites Kasabian are performing alongside fellow Brits, The Vaccines at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on Tuesday January 24 and at Festival Hall in Melbourne on Saturday January 28. Kasabian's album contains not only the name of a dinosaur but also an exclamation point, which is surely an indication of the good times to be had at their sideshows:

If you're lucky you might even end up in The Vaccines' next video, à la their Instagram photo collage video for 'Wetsuit':

Beloved Norweigan duo Röyksopp are doing two unmissable performances at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney on Friday January 27 and at The Palace in Melbourne on Thursday February 2. Here's an old favourite to get you in spirit:

Who wouldn't have fun watching a hardcore punk band play mariachi music? Mariachi El Bronx, sideproject of LA punk act The Bronx, are playing Sydney's Hordern Pavilion on Tuesday January 24 and Melbourne's Festival Hall on Saturday January 28 with Melburnian three-piece The Vasco Era:

Brooklyn hip hop rogues Das Racist produced their debut album with a motley crew of ratbags including Yeasayer's Anand Wilder, Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij and Diplo. They're playing a nationwide bunch of sideshows with special guests starting with The Zoo in Brisbane on Tuesday January 24, then on to Sydney's Oxford Art Factory on Wednesday January 25, The Corner in Melbourne on Monday January 30 and finishing at The Gov in Adelaide on Wednesday February 1. Wig out to 'Michael Jackson' clip here:

The nicer Gallagher (Noel) is doing his very first Australian shows since going solo at Sydney's Enmore Theatre on Monday January 23 and Melbourne's Palais on Tuesday January 31. Liam thinks his brother's debut solo album is boring, but he would say that. Here's a taste:

And finally, Cage The Elephant will be playing at Sydney's Oxford Art Factory on Saturday January 28 and Melbourne's Northcote Social Club on Tuesday January 31:
