Ultimate Road-Trip Playlist II

What will The Church listen to as they make their way to Homebake?
The Church

Homebake's Classic Edition takes place this weekend featuring classic Australian bands such as the Church, The Triffids, Icehouse, Ratcat and Nick Cave's Grinderman alongside the best new talent Australia has to offer. To celebrate, we asked The Church's Steve Kilbey to share his top five favourite tunes he would listen to on the way to his dream festival.

First up we have the Scottish folk singer Donavan's hippy anthem 'Atlantis', which was a hit way back in 1968 — classic indeed!

Next up is 'Song to the Siren'. This was originally penned and performed by Tim Buckley in 1970. This Mortal Coil covered the track in 1983, and since then it has appeared on several soundtracks — most notably in David Lynch's Lost Highway and more recently in The Lonely Bones.

We're not 100% sure what version Kilbey wanted to hear as he wasn't specific, so we took a gamble and chose the ever-etheral This Mortal Coil:

Joni Mitchell didn't go to Woodstock, but she did write and record a song named after it. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young were there, so here's their cover instead:

One-hit-wonders Kajagoogoo are famous for their 1982 song 'Too Shy', and The Church would like to listen to "anything" by them. It may be that they just love their music, but it's more likely they just really like Kajagoogoo's hair.

Kajagoogoo got you agitated? Never fear! The Church have the perfect song to relax you. 'Greensleeves' is a Ye Olde English folk song, although nowadays it usually emanates from ice-cream vans — there's usually one on the road just near St Mary's Cathedral, so you can eat one on your way to the festival!

(And if you liked that, here's our first Ultimate Road-trip Playlist.)

You can catch The Church this Saturday 3 December at Homebake: http://www.thefestivalist.com/festivals/homebake.
