L is for Left Behind

Roughly translated: An interview with The Rapture.
The Rapture

How Deep Is Your Love' is a song title that has been claimed by multiple bands. Most recently, The Rapture took it for the lead single from their latest album In The Grace Of Your Love. Its a fun fact to note that the self-proclaimed bad boys of late nineties R&B, Dru Hill, also lay ownership to the song title. ""Sisqó and I are from the same state,"" bassist Gabriel Andruzzi announces. ""And actually, I was at dinner next to Dru Hill two nights ago."" No doubt you're familiar with Sisqó's scandalous booty hit 'Thong Song' — does The Rapture's own 'How Deep Is Your Love' remind you of anything? ""Any similarities were pointed out after the album was recorded and mastered. We were like, 'Oh fuck.' Then we got over it,"" says Andruzzi, wryly.

It's been well documented that The Rapture have spent the past few years getting through and getting over lots of stuff. Births, deaths, break-ups, make-ups and finally an album, produced by Philippe Zdar, that deals with it all. It's been greeted with mixed reviews, but regardless of what people think, the boys are happy with the record — and so they should be. With that, they're back on the road once more.

The band have plenty of love and respect for Australia, having toured here numerous times. Andruzzi has plenty of praise for Australian festivals, saying that the band rarely have a bad show here. ""And the best thing in Australia is that they just take care of you. So I don't need to bring a damn thing!"" As for the rest of us who go to festivals to see bands like his, Andruzzi imparts one piece of advice: whatever you do, ""Just drink lots of water. It's the best way.""

Other than that, in Andruzzi's book, you can do no wrong. ""I don't think you can make a faux pas at a festival. I think you should be able to do whatever you want. You can show up uber prepared — like, it rains at a lot of summer festivals, so you gotta show up wearing Wellington boots, hoodies, and ready to camp out — or you can show up with nothing; barefoot with some thongs, some shorts and nothing else. Anything goes! The only thing is, you shouldn't show up feeling like you have to be prepared, or behave in a certain way. If you're at a festival, do whatever you want.
