Dream festivals

Imagine a music festival in an ice hotel replica of the Chateau Marmont. Upon arrival you watch Kurt Cobain, Miles Davis and Beyoncé perform an intimate acoustic set. Meanwhile, ‘N Sync have reformed with Phil Collins on drums and are doing a whole evening of duets with Lindsay Lohan (it is the Marmont after all). Where do you buy tickets? You can’t — it’s only a dream. We asked some important people about their Dream Festivals.

Steve Kilbey from The Church
Location: Antarctica in summer
Lineup: Wolfgang Mozart, Blondel de Nesle, Glenn Miller, John Lennon, Jobriath.
Era: Cretaceous
Accommodation: Igloo, château or castle.

Kimbra
Location: South of France
Lineup: Rufus Wainwright, Janelle Monáe, Michael Jackson, The Dirty Projectors, tUnE-yArDs, Jeff Buckley, Minnie Riperton, Scott Walker, Mew, Outkast, Nine Inch Nails, Take 6, Prince.
Era: Fifties.
Accommodation: French cottages!

Matt Grant – Peats Ridge Festival Director
Location: A small island just off the coast of Thailand.
Lineup: Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Jacksons, James Brown, Stone Roses, Nina Simone, Joy Division, The Cure, John Lee Hooker, The Cramps, Shpongle, Rolf Harris, Fever Ray, Hybrid, Gil Scott-Heron, Alien Sex Fiend, Wooden Shjips, LTJ Bukem, Larry Levan.
Era: Southern Hemisphere, December 21st Summer Solstice 2012.
Accommodation: Extremely minimal — two-man tent, sleeping mat and sleeping bag.

Graham Lee from The Triffids
Location: Hasselt, Belgium, the site where Pukkelpop is held. The weather would be fine (unlike this year, when a terrible thunderstorm ripped through with disastrous results.)
Lineup: The Byrds (late sixties line-up with Clarence White on guitar), The Dillards, The Beau Brummels, Richard and Linda Thompson, Plastic Ono Band, Wings, The Ramones, Bill Withers, Dirty Three, The Necks.
Era: Any time at all.
Accommodation: An art deco mansion in Hasselt.  

Tom Lang — Homebake Event Coordinator
Location: Small coastal property with 5000 capacity.
Lineup: Johnny Cash, N.W.A, Pavement, Art of Fighting, Something for Kate, Radiohead, Future of the Left, Ween, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Doves, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Archers of Loaf, AC/DC, The Velvet Underground, Lionel Richie, Kanye West.
Era: I assume time travel is no problem in this game, so I would go back and grab each of the artists from their peak and bring them all together now.
Accommodation: A costal cliff face (accessible only by train) would do.

Matt Okine, Comedian
Location: Pebble Beach Golf Course. What more could you want than luscious green acres right next to stunning beaches? Sure, it would probably ruin the golf course forever, but that only adds to the charm. Not to mention that if we all channeled Tiger, there’d be a lot of people getting lucky that night…
Lineup: Kanye West, Jay-Z, Jeff Buckley, Bruce Springsteen, The Avalanches, Childish Gambino, Beastie Boys, The Streets, Hilltop Hoods, P-Money, Scribe, David Dallas.
Era: A time when you could get more than a mid-strength beer and didn’t have to mortgage your house to afford a ticket.
Accommodation: Not camping. Camping sucks.
