He’s remixed Bowie and worked with everyone from Kelly Rowland and Akon to Kid Cudi, Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj. Now French producer and DJ David Guetta is coming to a festival near you, set to play Creamfields in April and May of 2012. Guetta is internationally renowned for his catchy beats, taking home a slew of awards from all over the world including ‘World’s Best Selling DJ’ (World Music Awards, 2007), ‘Best House DJ’ (DJ Awards, 2008), ‘Best DJ’, ‘Best Producer’ and ‘Best Selling French Artist’ (all at the World Music Awards, 2010) and ‘International Album of the Year’ (NRJ Music Awards 2010). Guetta is also renowned in the industry for being one of the nicest guys around. His biggest hit came in 2009, when The Black Eyed Peas released the David Guetta-produced ‘I Gotta Feeling’, seeing Guetta nominated twice at the 52nd Grammy Awards. Here's a terrifying fact: ‘I Gotta Feeling’ became the most downloaded song of all-time in the US, with close to 7.5 million downloads. He's obviously doing something right.
The best thing about David Guetta, though, is how entertaining he is to watch perform. I’m willing to bet that Guetta is either a born dork and proud of it, or he has the best sense of humour in the business, because the way he dances and the outfits he comes up with are so perfectly dorky that it just makes you want to hug the guy. Particularly funny is his multi-coloured puffy jacket and baggy jeans combo in his clip for ‘Memories (feat Kid Cudi)', or the way he bops along to Kelly Rowland singing ‘When Love Takes Over’ live at Miss Universe 2009(!) — Guetta couldn't possibly look any happier, while Kelly couldn’t possibly look any crazier. Dream duo: the dorky DJ with the biggest grin ever and the fembot-experiencing-an-electrical-malfunction, amongst a sea of models and wannabe peacemakers. So good!
While it still remains to be seen if Guetta is a dork by nature, or just the ultimate larrikin, there is one certainty — he knows how to put on a great show. To give you an idea: a friend saw Guetta DJ in a giant revolving dome, somewhere in the South of France, while people on stilts wearing robot costumes paraded down a runway below... so, expect big things in 2012 when Guetta tours the major cities for Creamfields. Venues and the full festival line-up will be released on 22 November and tickets go on sale 8 December, so stayed tuned at The Festivalist for all the details.
